“My name is Legion, for we are many” (Mark 5:9)

In the Gospels of Mark 5 and Luke 8, Jesus meets a man possessed by many demons in the region of the Gerasenes. When Jesus asks the spirit’s name, it replies, “My name is legion, for we are many.” Jesus drives the demons out of the man, and into a heard of pigs, which then rush into the sea and drown, freeing the man from his tormentors.
